Affiliate Marketing: A Group Effort

Affiliate Marketing: A Group Effort

Are you are ready to throw in the towel and quit your 9-to-5 job? Thinking of turning to the Internet and starting your own business? If so, you need to know that on-line businesses fall into two categories. One is a solo business where you wear all of the hats from the CEO down to the lowly janitor. The other is where you combine your efforts with others into a partnership.

Two big solo business examples are eBay and Etsy. eBay is a huge garage sale where you clean out your attic and sell your items. It is an online auction where people place bids on items that are sold to the highest bidder. Vendors offer everything from jewelry to antique organ benches to stereo systems.

Etsy is the consummate online marketplace where craft enthusiasts sell their crafts. It is like your local craft boutique during the holidays…on steroids. Each marketer sets up a virtual storefront for their wares, which range from fridge magnets to vinyl wall decorations.

The other business category is participating in affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is a group effort where a business relies on a group of individuals to get customers. A business pays you a commission for customers or visitors that you 'drive' to that business's webpage or online store.

There are many ways to drive those customers to a business. You can display business links or ads on your website. This is one of the most common ways. It is a simple, one-time action on your part that once the link or ad is up, you don't do anything about it.

Another way that takes repetitive action is to mention the business in a Twitter post or on your Facebook page. Since Twitter and Facebook posts are in 'real time,' you will have to make regular or repeated posts because your initial posting is pushed to the bottom as time goes on.
