Avoid Toxic Web Links

The Premise: If you want your web site to rank high in search engine rankings, you have to be good at building quality links.
The Problem: Rules in link building changes so fast. Search engine algorithms go with these changes.
The Remedy: You have to evolve with these changes. Learn to be a master of the new link building game!
Part of learning the new link building scheme is to know how to avoid toxic web links. These links are often resorted to in doing reciprocal linking. How do you combat the temptation?
1. Be picky about reciprocal links. They can be helpful if made accurately. Choose high pageranked sites that are related to yours. Stay away from link farms, free-for-all sites, and paid links.
2. Reciprocal links may be a no-gain situation. As a fact, it may hurt your search engine rankings.
3. Voting against yourself. One-way outbound links on your site may not be a good idea. To prevent 'negative votes,' ensure that your outbound links are coded with the NOFOLLOW attribute.
4. Build quality links. In order for them to be powerful, they have to be connected to your site. How will you know it? The keywords of your site must be similar to those of your reciprocal web sites.
5. Send your web site to de-tox.
