Combat amidst WAN and search engine spiders
Earlier, The World Association of Newspapers (WAN) has expressed its yearning for the ultimate solution to prevent the alleged copyright violations by search engines. WAN explained that the technology being used by the latter does not recognize license agreements with publishing companies and the result is infringement of rights.

WAN has spearheaded a task force for said cause. It is aimed at stopping exploitation of content by search engines without any permission or due compensation. Moreover, said task force found out that currently there is no technological solution for the search engine spiders to take a few but not the entire content. As a fact, latest solutions only permit 'all or nothing' approach.

Further, last Monday a Belgian court has ordered Google to discontinue reproducing articles, graphics and photos from French- and German-language Belgian newspapers. WAN also suggested to modify the technology used by search engines and to replace it with something that recognizes licensing agreements and copyright requirements.
