Diffusing ‘Google Bomb’

Diffusing 'Google Bomb'

Web search engine optimization hype this couple of weeks includes the reduction of the impact of Google bombs. One of the most popular, if not the most popular, Google bomb is that which include no less than President George W. Bush. When the term "Miserable failure" is entered into Google search box to start online query, the results display the White House website that includes some of Bush's information.

Said bomb is not in any way connected to destabilization attempts of terrorists. It is simply an aftermath of Google's algorithm. Today, when you inquire about same term, Bush's name carrying the US White House website is no longer on top search engine optimization results.

Over the years, there have been several Google bombs over the Net and it damages reputation. This is the reason why Google is now concentrating on diffusing these bombs. Google said:

People have asked about how we feel about Googlebombs, and we have talked about them in the past. Because these pranks are normally for phrases that are well off the beaten path, they haven't been a very high priority for us. But over time, we've seen more people assume that they are Google's opinion, or that Google has hand-coded the results for these Googlebombed queries. That's not true, and it seemed like it was worth trying to correct that misperception. So a few of us who work here got together and came up with an algorithm that minimizes the impact of many Googlebombs.
