Simply, double opt-in happens when the new subscriber fills out a form on your web site. Then, your list management software sends a confirmation email to the subscriber with a particular coded link. Next, the subscriber clicks the link. Finally, he is added to your list. Minus the second and third steps, it will be called single opt-in.
Why is double opt-in process the most efficient?
First, there's less chance of being tagged as a spammer. Second, because fewer bad email addresses will be stored in your list. Third, because it is required by some mailing list delivery services.
But what if, subscribers won't click the confirmation link? Urgh! That's kinda tough! It could mean losing a significant slice of subscribers.
So what are you supposed to do? Here are some of the few things I've seen some internet marketers do.
You can do the following steps:
1. Have a compelling ezine or press release.
2. Offer incentives such as an e-book.
3. Remind subscribers to confirm by clicking the link.
4. Prove steps on how to do the confirmation.
Now you're ready to give it a try. Or perhaps check the details of your email marketing process.
