Expect More Freedom At Google China

Expect More Freedom At Google China

According to the Wall Street Journal report Google Inc., the second-largest Internet search engine in China, aims to become the market leader there, as it gives local management more authority. The statement was given by Chief Executive Eric Schmidt under the report titled Google Aims to Make Gains in China By Giving Units Greater Autonomy.

The report continues…
"We were late in entering the China market. We are catching up, our investment is working and we will eventually be the leader," Mr. Schmidt said, adding Google's search technology in China has improved over the past year. He added, "Google China is run very autonomously. We want to increase that … China is growing very quickly … so it's important that we invest in China."

Separately, Schmidt also said that Lee Kai-Fu, Google China's current president, will not share that position with anyone else in the near future. This question came up because Google China's co-president, Johnny Chou resigned on the 31st of December because the world's leading Internet search engine did allegedly not support his "localization plan." Lee Kai-Fu's strategy is said to be more focused on social networking, mobile applications as well as entertainment services.
