, Friendster as well as web services offered by Blogger, Yahoo instant-messaging features, AOL, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the like, are the objects of the bill proposed by Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick, a Pennsylvania Republican.Said bill called the Deleting Online Predators Act or DOPA, is aimed at protecting minors who are the passionate users of the mentioned sites. This bill, if signed into law, will be requiring most schools and libraries to make those sites inaccessible to them. The bill is part of the poll-driven effort of the Republicans to deal with important issues of its constituents.
According to Fitzpatrick, "When children leave the home and go to school or the public library and have access to social-networking sites, we have reason to be concerned." He further added, "My bill is both timely and needed and will be very well-accepted, certainly by the constituents I represent."
If this bill be approved, meta tags must be strictly constructed so as not to mislead minors for websites with adult or questionable content. Violation of which entitles the doer to suffer up to 20 years in prison.
