Following APIs to embed media in a website, Google has released API that makes it possible to embed Books into webpages. The books are available via Google Book Search.

"As on the Book Search site itself, you can search within the book, zoom in and out on the page, and browse up to 20% of the book," explains Inside Google Book Search. The new widget is already used by online catalogs like WorldCat.org and social book sites like weRead to preview books.

I still think we're in the midst of a data accumulation revolution and with all that data we just need to be able to find the information. For Google this is actually nothing to do with the content or data. The only reason for inventing search was to be able to get traffic and sell advertising to people trying to find things. The more the traffic the more the dollars flowing into their bank accounts.
Having said that, their search technology is awesome and I don't think I could live my life in the same way now without them.
Ooh...scary thought that I'm becoming dependent on the internet!!!
