Google Crawling AJAX

Search Engine Land was able to confirm it early this month: Google is now crawling AJAX pages on the web if they meet a proposed standard that Google put forth a while back.
Ajax, shorthand for asynchronous JavaScript and XML(Extensible Markup Language) is "a group of interrelated web development techniques used on the client-side to create interactive web applications," according to Wikipedia. Ajax actually combines a number of programming tools besides just JavaScript and XML. Other tools in the AJAX toolbox include dynamic HTML (DHTML), , cascading style sheets (CSS), the Document Object Model (DOM), and the Microsoft object. Ajax has the advantage of allowing content on Web pages to update immediately when a user performs some action. Compare that to an HTTP request, where Web users have to wait for a whole new page to load.
Despite the obvious benefits of AJAX, many websites were reluctant to use it because Google (until now) wouldn't crawling AJAX pages and rank them in their search directory. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for AJAX pages to start showing up near the top of searches.
