Google Malware Warning Could Hit Your Web Search
Filed in archive google by noel on February 27, 2007

In one of your Google searches, you could encounter this note: "This site may harm your computer." If you click on that link you will be directed to the Google Web Search Help Center page to give you this information:
This warning message appears with search results that we've identified as sites that may install malicious software on your computer. We want our users to feel safer when they search the web, and we're continuously working to identify such dangerous sites and increase protection for our users.
Google will further lead you to the StopBadware website. StopBadware said, "We aim to become a central clearinghouse for research on badware
and the bad actors who spread it, and become a focal point for developing collaborative, community-minded approaches to stopping badware."StopBadware is backed by Harvard Law's Berkman Center for Internet & Society, Oxford University's Oxford Internet Institute and other big companies and organizations including Google, Lenovo and Sun. What is scary about malware warning is the fact that webmasters as well as web owners might have a link to badware on their site without them knowing it or their website might have been hacked. However, if these circumstances happen, report it immediately to Google. You can always go back to the Web Search Help Center page.
