Google uses over 200 signals for ranking
A few weeks ago, Google had a press day and there are some interesting slides about google. One thing that caught my attention was a slide about the number of factors that google use for ranking. They are over 200 of them.

It is every SEOs dream to get a hold of that but unfortunately, it is very closely guarded secret by google. In their slide presentation however, you can very well see that they are continuing to refine their algorithms.

An example they brought out was in you are searching for "viagra". What people wanted to see in the first page are the most relevant sites such as the website of pfizer, FDA consumer site, wikipedia entry about viagra, and not some cheap websites or scraper sites selling cheap viagralinks.
