Google-eBay venture promoting free Wi-Fi with sale of $5 routers

FON which is a Google funded company, together with eBay will be selling routers for only $5. The goal is to promote free wireless internet access. The catch is that consumers will need to share their web connections with others. In return, they will also be able to access other people's wifi connections in the same network.

The original cost of the router is $60. A very good bargain indeed. I'm only concerned about the security of the consumer's PC. Once they enable others to access their wifi connection, other people can "see" their PC and if it is not protected, it can be vulnerable to hacker attack.

that’s pretty cheap indeed! The intentions are noble, but I don’t think it would be appreciated by the people who will have their computers hacked because it’s not secure enough. And even if it is. Some people takes up the challenge
