Google’s Biodiesel Buses Pamper Employees

Google's Biodiesel Buses Pamper Employees

Google is pampering its employees with lots of perks. Free chef-prepared food, haircuts, a volleyball court, 2 lap pools, a climbing wall, on-site car washes, oil changes, and free doctor checkups are some of the perks that the internet search engine giant offer. However, the most-loved fringe benefit is the free shuttle bus ride.

Google has turned itself into a mass transit operator complete with biodiesel buses to make commuting easy, convenient and luxurious. Said fringe benefit keeps attracting new recruits for the engineering division.

What more, Google now ferries about 1,200 employees to and from the facility daily. Thirty-two shuttle buses are equipped with comfortable leather seats and wireless Internet access. In addition, bicycles are allowed on exterior racks, and dogs on forward seats, or on their owners' laps if the buses run full. Shuttle occupants receive alerts on their computers and mobile phones when buses run late.

Marty Lev, Google's director of security and safety, who oversees the program said, "We are basically running a small municipal transit agency."

Michael Gaiman, a 23-year-old Web applications engineer said he turned down an offer from Apple before accepting the job at Google. He added, "It definitely was a factor."
