Link building proves to be a never ending topic for search engine optimization experts. In fact, the talks about link building have not subsided since 2003. The talks are heightened when the need to discuss how link building could boost Google's PageRank emerged. The discussion did not mellow a bit when the strategies in fighting for positioning with specific keywords became a hot issue.

Remember that search engines play crucial role in your web search rankings. In link building, here are the parameters that you need to consider:

1. Search engines put great weight on links that came from related websites.
2. The spiders also consider the page rank (at least PR3) of websites involved in link building.
3. Never let your website get listed on a Free for All (FFA) links page.
4. Keep away from websites associated to gambling or porn.

If you desire top search engine rankings, you should really take the time and effort to do link building the right way.

Avoid any black-hat techniques that could have you linked to sites that send spam or scams or the search engines will deal with this severely. So the message is that you must know exactly who you are linked to. You should at least check out your link partners’ site and obtain a certain degree of comfort with their business. One suggestion would be to obtain as much information including any bad publicity through what else - your reliable search engines

Deep linking is also more effective because you can pass link juice back to the home page automatically via footer links.
