As we can observe, innovations are using cool and luscious menus to lure web visitors especially the young generation. No wonder why there are tons and tons of visitors from different sectors who are pretty much captivated by the latest online Phenomenon. They just have to name what they want and they'll going to get it.
However, along with the overwhelming new stuffs is the sacrifice of the site's search engine rankings.
Web design and layout are getting showy and flashy. Way far from what SEO requires. Search engines are saying KISS. Keep it Simple Stupid!
The fact is that simple web design and content rank well with search engines. And if only the latest online phenomenon is readable by the web spiders and robots, it could have been better however; it is not. Hence, it should be avoided. To help you appreciate simplicity for your site's rankings, stick with html and css. You can also bank on php or asp if you have to create a dynamic site.

This is one of those areas that online marketers still have a hard time believing, as so many people continually say it’s the bells and whistles that make the difference on a site.
Not only do slower load times still affect visitors, but, as you say, the added stuff doesn’t help SEO at all either.

exactly! Some sites even have a full page flash on its main domain and then redirects the users to their main site in some directory. This will just hurt the site SEO wise.
