Here are the advantages of page tagging against logfile analysis:
1. When a page is loaded, JavaScript does not run automatically.
2. JavaScript accommodates additional information. Hence, data collected can be added easily. Compared to logfiles, the web server does not collect information so changes can only be accommodated when the url is altered.
3. Cookies are assigned to visitors so there is no need for server configuration.
4. Persons or organizations that do not run their own servers can employ page tagging.
Here are the advantages of logfile analysis over page tagging:
1. Web server produces logfiles. In page tagging, changes are done to the website to produce data.
2. Web servers record every action taken.
3. Servers use standard formatted data. This makes switching programs or solutions easy.
4. Logfiles record the whole thing including failed requests.
5. Logfiles keep search engine spiders' visits. This is useful in doing search engine optimization services.
