Search Engine ABCs to the Rescue

Different races speak different languages – so are search engines. They not only have diverse algorithm, they have their own lingo for all of us to comprehend.
Others will say that search engines are pretty difficult; this is because they are not familiar with its lingo. Indeed, it is hard to mingle in one territory where you have the faintest idea of its jargon. It will certainly result to conflict, misunderstanding, and worst – failure.
If you have encountered such dilemma, no further worries because here are some of the search engine terminologies to help you get the hang out of it.
Boolean search – search method that allows the inclusion or exclusion of documents containing certain words through the use of operators (and, or, not)
Concept search – search method that is designed for documents interrelated abstractly to a word, rather than explicitly containing the word itself
Fuzzy search – search method that find matches even when words are misspelled or partly spelled
Keyword search – search method to yield one or more words that are precisely used by the searcher
Stemming – the ability of search engines to locate even the 'stem' or root word of the queried term.
