Search Engines: Beyond The Web
Just because search engines are on the web doesn't mean all information should be on the net. The thing is non-web content could also be had.

Impossible?! Of course not.

Major search engines such as Google have provided a number of clever options for their users. Google users, for instance, can retrieve information from the web, news, maps, books, and other resources.

Search engines are working out systems that allow delivery of best results regardless of where the information comes from. This is particularly beneficial for users who are doing intensive research.

web search engines have gone far beyond the scope of just searching the web, they are information engines. Google's gathering information from different sources and combining them into one result set. It's been several months now since Google started this method. But this is just a start. Something big will be unraveled in the near future...All we can do now is to wait for it...
