SEO Basics: Don’t use Frames

SEO Basics: Don't use Frames

A few weeks ago, I got an email from a member of a yahoogroup asking some search engine professionals to check out his site. I was surprised that he was still using frames on his main page. For people involved in SEO, the knowledge of not using Frames is a given, but I realized that a lot of people still have no clue or any idea about optimization so I guess I better write some SEO basics.

The use of frames is a big no when it comes to optimization. The reason is that, when you use frames, you actually separate different parts of your webpage into different html files, and then just refer to it on your webpage.

When a search engine spider sees your main page, it sees the "frame" code, and not your content which is in another html file. Since there is no content in your main page, there is no keyword for it to be ranked on.
