Subscription.com or Too Much Searching

The Economist: what do you read...?

Is it possible to Google yourself to death? (Not that I would Google myself… or at least not very often, and only when I'm alone.) But I mean, can you get so involved in a search engine (whether it's Google or Yahoo or Bing or Wulfram Alpha or Middle Spot, or Cuil, or, well, whatever) that you do yourself some damage – either physically or mentally?

My wife says I live on the Internet. It's easy to do. And I realized not long ago that life on the Internet is shallow. Lots of superficial details. If you want real meat to chew on while you read, you still have to read something printed on paper.

I decided that life on the Internet might be making me shallow, so I started looking for services like subscription.com where I could find real stuff to read. Now I get a handful of magazines and journals. And I feel a little more well rounded…
