The mashup giant called Google
Filed in archive google by Arun Radhakrishnan on February 18, 2008
Its a really interesting piece of information that Ruud from Search Engine People brings to our attention. While the whole online world has been going ga-ga over the phenomenon called mash-ups, Google is itself doing it all out on the Web.

Ruud refers to several services from Google that make the mash-up all the more clear.

They take 20 years of public postings on Usenet, call it Google Groups and only the search results will you see this acknowledged.

They take 4000+ news sources, scan 'm, scrape 'm and then reassemble or mash them up into Google News.

They take photos of our world, our buildings, our streets - photos of us - repackage it and call it google street view.

Yes, its ultra-cool what the world's most popular search engine is doing. I would say that perhaps the announcement of Universal search was the most notable mash-up announcement from Google.

Considering the repository of information that Google is, perhaps it is the only firm in the enviable position to mash-up the web !
